SCR's Miniature Zebu
Miniature Zebu Cattle are well known for being gentle, intelligent, and relatively easy to raise! They originated in India being one of the oldest cattle breeds in the world, possibly dating as far back as 6000 BC.
Zebu Cattle are docile, have great temperaments, and in addition they are quite hardy. Baby Zebu Cattle are simply adorable, and often described as fawn-like. They are slow to mature into adulthood and in general mini zebu are easy to care for. They can be housed in barns or pastures with a shelter and require much less grazing area than their larger counterparts. They tolerate warm climates quite well, and they generally only require a shelter from freezing temperatures. They are a tropical species and have adapted to the warm climates in which they originally lived. Feeding is not difficult, though what to feed will vary according to the season and your geographic location. In winter months hay will be readily accepted while the rest of the year good quality grass will suffice. As for grain, cattle feed or a general purpose sweet feed may be used. Salt blocks and fresh water are also a must to keep your Miniature Zebu healthy and happy.
Miniature Zebu Cattle can best be described as exotic and of all miniture cattle are the ONLY true mini not having been breed down from a larger sized cow. These beautiful miniature cattle are striking! The characteristic hump of the larger zebu cattle is not lost on the mini! The hump of the female is less pronounced however than that of the male. To be classified as a miniature males should not weight more than 600 pounds at maturity and females should weigh less than males. They should also not reach more than 42 inches at the shoulders. Miniature Zebu Cattle have long whip-like tails and have fairly short horns which are very unique to each animal and may go forward, down, back, a combination, or any which way you can imagine. Their sleek coats are dense and short. They are accepted in a variety of colors including gray, near-white, spotted, black or red.
